Selkirk Tour - Day 3 (Crawford Bay, British Columbia)

Hello from Crawford Bay! I'm staying at Kokanee Chalets and Campground tonight and with some bad weather rolling in I decided to opt for a motel room on the campsite rather than try to deal with bad weather. Last night there was supposedly a zero percent chance of rain but at about 3:30 a.m. I felt the raindrops start to hit my tent. By about 4 a.m. it was a downpour and it kept up for about two and a half hours. There was a small break around 6:30 a.m. and I was able to tear down my tent and get all that done. The crazy thing about last night was as I was hanging out at my campsite the four people I met the day before rolled up next to me and were at the site right beside me. We talked for a while last night and then the next morning they asked if I wanted to go to breakfast with them which I did. We had a small tent community last night.

We had breakfast at the Roadhouse Cafe (wasn't quite like the movie) and started around 9:45 a.m. which is a lot later than I had hoped but it was going to be nice to ride with people this morning given the dreary weather. I had my rain gear on and rain covers on my bags and we were off. We took a side road off the highway which was great and scenic. Here's the route today but it doesn't show that road.

So after Dan, Dave, Terri, Nancy and I got going we rode for about 10 miles before coming up on a small general store where we were going to buy sandwiches to pack in our bags for lunch. There was rain in the forecast the entire day and thankfully it had been holding off at that point but the skies looked threatening. After we got through this tiny village we came across on a guy that had just finished changing a tire and was loaded up like we were. His name was Jeff and he ended up riding with our group for a while. Dan and Nancy were riding behind but Terri, Dave, Jeff and I rode for a while together. After a few hours of riding we stopped and ate lunch and Dave and Terri were going to wait for the other two people in their group. I had a great time riding with them! Jeff was going on the same route as me so we moved on and it was fantastic to ride with him. We had the same pace and talked the entire way. I rode about 80 km today and all but 15-20 of that were with Jeff and the day flew by and had great roads and scenery. Jeff was from Yellowknife in the Canadian Northwest Territories so he had quite the drive down here! Jeff was doing a blog as well so when I got into Crawford Bay we exchanged info and he continued to his final destination. Thanks for riding, Jeff! Had a great day today. Here are some photos.

Dog yesterday...cat outside the restaurant at breakfast today.

I look like a dork. But the sign said "Timothy" so Terri took my picture.

Right around here we hit Kootenay Lake and rode by this the whole day. Beautiful lake and the water was crystal clear.

There's my riding buddy Jeff.

That's it for today! I have a climb out of here tomorrow and then a ferry ride across the lake first thing in the morning. Then a short day and I'm going to stop for a soak at Ainsworth Hot Springs along the way. Hopefully the weather holds again tomorrow! Until then...
